Over 380 birdspecies have been identified in the forest of El Copal Reserve, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. It is part of a biological corridor between Tapantí-Macizo de la Muerte National Park and La Amistad International Park. The community shares their traditional activities like sugar cane cultivation, cattle raising and making “tapa de dulce”, the native hard brown sugar. The lodge, powered by solar energy, is great for birdwatchers, hikers or student groups.

We offer guided trekking tours along the 5400 m. nature trails, such as:
Every pathway offers the opportunity to meet and admire the diversity of fauna and flora, as well as the transition between the different sorts of rainforest in the Reserve. The walking tours include a naturalist or local guide, who will help you identify several plants, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds and insects, and will tell you about Costa Rican natural history, the local community, and its environmental projects.

El Copal Paseo One Day Tour
El Copal Paseo One Day Tour will bring you closer to Costa Rican rural life, its green mountains, sugar mills, forests, rivers, waterfalls! El Copal Reserve, 2 hours away from San José, is of great ecological interest as it is part of the biological corridor between the Tapantí National Park, La Amistad National Park, and Macizo de la Muerte National Park.
On the way to el Copal, pass by Orosi Valley. Once in El Copal, Visit a cattle farm and biodigestor and meet local farmers, who have lived their entire life in this community. They will entertain you with some local anecdotes and you can enjoy a swim in the natural pools nearby. After savoring a delicious typical lunch in El Copal, you will learn about the conservation efforts of El Copal Conservation and Development Association. Those in search of a physically active experience will end the day hiking the La Mariposa trail.

El Copal One-Day Birding Tour
Depart early in the morning to El Copal, near Tapantí National Park. At El Humo, take a tractor ride to the entrance of El Copal, where your birding tour starts on the El Trapiche Trail, where you will see amazingly beautiful rareties, such as the Snowcap, Lovely Cotinga, Scale Antpitta, White-collared Manakin - 21 species of Tanagers are not uncommon here.
