In the middle of Talamanca’s tropical forest, in the community of Carbón 2, and close to Cahuita you will find Casa Calateas. The lodge offers splendid views to watch birds (more than 300 species) and its location allows the observation of migrant raptors.

Casa Calateas Caribbean Escape (2D/1N)
Without transportation from Cahuita
Day 1: After a days visit in Cahuita National Park, drive 4 km into the Caribbean Forest to reach Casa Calateas, a Caribbean-style Lodge set in the middle of the forest. Arrive to Casa Calateas before sunset. Welcome with a natural juice. Presentation on the history of the community. Dinner at Casa Calateas. Learn to prepare Rondón, the local fish and coconut stew. Overnight at Casa Calateas.
Day 2: Optional: Before breakfast, visit the lookout point to observe the impressive forest and great amount of exotic birds. Breakfast. Caña Gira River Tour & Campesino House Tour. With your local guide, enjoy a refreshing swim at Caña Gira natural pool and then savor a delicious lunch at a Campesino house where you will learn about the local way of life. Depart for your suggested next destinations: Puerto Viejo, Manzanillo, Gandoca, or Stibrawpa in Yorkín!

With transportation from and to Puerto Viejo
Day 1: You will picked up in Puerto Viejo by a local taxi to drive you 4 km into the Caribbean Forest into Casa Calateas Lodge, a Caribbean-style Lodge set in the middle of the forest. Arrival at Casa Calateas before sunset. Welcome with a natural juice. Presentation on the history of the community. Dinner at Casa Calateas. Learn to prepare Rondón, the local fish and coconut stew. Overnight at Casa Calateas.

Casa Calateas is an excellent place for bird watching - more than three hundred species have been counted to inhabit the area. In the months from October to December, the impressive phenomenon of the raptor migration happens. Breakfast. Campesino Farm Tour & Caña Gira River Tour with your local guide, enjoy a refreshing swim at Caña Gira natural pool and then savor a delicious lunch at a Campesino house where you will learn about the local way of life. After this beautiful tour, you will be driven to Puerto Viejo to continue exploring the Afro-costarrican Caribbean!
